You probably have one or two childhood memories involving mummy dearest, castor oil and a runny tummy. But other than its slightly frightening diarrhea and labour inducing properties, it can do wonders for your hair and scalp. It's no wonder then, that together with avocado oil, it forms the basis for one of our butters that is definitely a customer fave.

Castor oil is a very thick oil with a golden appearance that has strong pain killing and anti-inflammatory properties. It is deeply moisturizing because it enters the hair cuticle and scalp, guaranteeing long lasting hydration and nutrition. It thickens and promotes hair growth and can also be used where hair may be sparse like your eyebrows and eyelashes. Because it has omega-9 fatty acids, castor oil can help to replenish hair after chemical damage from relaxing or dyeing. It is also a humectant and ensures that both skin and hair remain soft and supple by preventing moisture loss.

Despite these amazing properties, some people find that castor oil is too thick and heavy on their hair and may also have a strong overwhelming smell. This is is where we bring in avocado oil which is very light and non-greasy with a sweet and nutty aroma. It contains vitamins A, B, D and E and minerals such as calcium, copper and magnesium, and amino acids and proteins. It serves as a great carrier that enhances the moisturizing properties of the other oils and penetrates skin and hair very easily. In the same way we have infused it into your koili jar, avcado oil can be added to shampoo or a deep conditioning treatment for that extra TLC for your hair.
